Creation of the band
The Pussycat Dolls is an American female pop group created by choreographer Robin Antin. The group emerged in 1995 as a burlesque troupe in Los Angeles, California.
After gaining wide popularity and with the involvement of music producers Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair, The Pussycat Dolls were transformed into a franchise. The former dance troupe became a popular music group and signed with Iovine’s label, Interscope Records.
First album of the group
On September 13, 2005, they released their first album, “PCD,” which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200. It reached number one in five countries, including New Zealand, number seven on the UK Albums Chart and number eight on the Australian Albums Chart. The album went multi-platinum in seven countries, including the UK and the US. Over 5 million copies were sold worldwide.

Their first single, “Don’t Cha,” was a success, reaching number one in many countries, including the UK, Australia and Canada and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was originally a cover version of Tori Alamaze‘s single featuring rapper Busta Rhymes. The group won a Billboard Music Award for “Don’t Cha” as the Single of the Year in the category for Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Sales.
Six more singles were released from the album. The ballad “Stickwitu” made it to the top five tracks in the US. This song made the group successful again in the United Kingdom. The track was later nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group.
Their third single, “Beep,” featuring rapper Will.i.am, did not have the same success as the previous two songs, but it still landed at the top of the charts worldwide.
Tours
Throughout 2006, The Pussycat Dolls performed live in North America, supporting the Black Eyed Peas. As headliners, they toured the UK, Europe, the Philippines and Malaysia. The group also performed at the annual SingFest in Singapore.

During the period from November 2006 to January 2007, the group went on their PCD World Tour with Rihanna as a warm-up. On February 4, 2007, they played at the Manchester Evening News Arena concert that was recorded and later broadcast on MSN Music.
The Pussycat Dolls also toured North America in support of Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics Tour, along with Danity Kane and NLT.
Second album of the group
In 2008, the ensemble released their second studio album “Doll Domination,” which included successful tracks “When I Grow Up,” “I Hate This Part” and “Jai Ho!”
On their road to fame, the group was criticized for their explicitly sexual image and raunchy dances, as well as for giving too much attention to the lead singer, Nicole Scherzinger. She sang almost all of the lead and background vocals. Visiting this site, you will learn more about how the Golden Age of Hollywood differed from that time.
After several rejections and two released singles, the album “Doll Domination” came out on September 19, 2008. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, selling 79,000 copies in its first week. It remained only seven weeks on the chart compared to their first album, which lasted almost a year.
When the album started gaining recognition in the United States and Europe, the Pussycat Dolls began their World Domination Tour on January 18, 2009, in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Discord in the group
From 2006 to the end of 2008, Nicole Scherzinger worked on her debut album, which was to be titled “Her Name Is Nicole.” While The Pussycat Dolls were on a break, Scherzinger released four singles, none of which were as successful as her work with the group. The album release was initially planned for the end of 2007, then postponed to October 2008 and later to 2009 before being delayed. Some of the songs recorded for Scherzinger’s album appeared on the second album of the Dolls.
Making Scherzinger the main vocalist sparked controversy, as tracks like “Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)” and “Hush Hush; Hush Hush” highlighted her popularity. This led to rumors that Nicole Scherzinger was leaving the group to pursue a solo career, despite the fact that sales of songs from her delayed 2007 solo album “Her Name Is Nicole” were much lower than average. As a result, it caused conflict within the group because other members did not like that all attention was aimed at Scherzinger. Things got even worse when rumors surfaced that the group would disband after finishing their world tour.

The group’s breakup and epic return
On August 2, 2009, founder Robin Antin stopped speculations when finally announced on her own Twitter page: “The group is not disbanding. And if the collective ever did break up, you would hear it from me, not from gossip. Album #3 is on the way!”
On September 24, 2009, it was confirmed that the group would take a break. During an interview with MTV, Thornton said: “Right now the Pussycat Dolls are on a break. It’s actually a much-needed break. It’s like when you’re with your sisters for 24 hours a day and you need to take your own shower.”
On October 12, 2009, Kimberly Wyatt revealed to fans the truth about what is hiding behind The Pussycat Dolls franchise. Wyatt claimed that the group was formed as a Broadway show and that Robin Antin, who founded the Dolls, was recruiting new members. Therefore, the group will continue to work even if some people leave. She also confirmed that the ensemble is on hiatus and that she is unsure if she is still its member, questioning the future of the group.

In an interview with Chris Younie on The Hits Radio On October 29, 2009, Wyatt officially confirmed all the rumors and the group’s official status. She stated that “there are zero plans for a next album”.
The group officially disbanded in 2010 when Kimberly Wyatt, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Nicole Scherzinger all departed from it. Six new members were to join the group, Vanessa Curry, Lauren Bennett, Tiffanie “Taz” Zavala, Kristal Lyndriette Smith, Paula van Oppen and Kia Hampton. Eventually, the girls came together as the group G.R.L.
However, The Pussycat Dolls announced their comeback at the end of November 2019, posting on social media with the hashtag #PCDReunion. On November 30, 2019, they appeared on the show X Factor: Celebrity. There, the members performed a medley of their hits, as well as a new song called “React”.
Solo careers of the group members
Jessica Sutta collaborated with Paul van Dyk on the track “White Lies”. This song topped the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart in August 2007 and became Paul van Dyk’s best single.
Nicole Scherzinger released four solo singles from July to December 2007. None of them managed to reach the American chart, but the song “Baby Love” became popular in Europe and Brazil. Scherzinger also collaborated with other artists on their recordings.
In 2007, Melody Thornton appeared on rapper Jibbs’ third single, “Go Too Far”. She expressed hope in an interview with Billboard magazine that the group will provide a platform for all members to pursue solo careers.
Ashley Roberts got a supporting role in the dance drama film Make It Happen, released in 2008.
Kimberly Wyatt appeared on the reality show Celebracadabra and gave masterclasses in London during the group’s break in 2009.
