The upcoming film star was born in Los Angeles in 1967. He and his mother divorced, but his mother got married again. Joseph (the actor’s full name) was adopted by his stepfather. In general, the movie star has a large family: three brothers and four sisters.
When Joe was six years old, his family moved from Los Angeles to Nevada. The Flanigans lived on a small ranch near Reno.
At the age of 14, he was sent to a boarding school in Ohio. Then he studied at the University of Colorado. Joe showed an interest in acting while he was in school. The Junior Year Abroad program allowed him to study for a year in Paris. Joe learned to speak French because of this experience.

An interesting fact is that in September 2007, the UTA agency filed a lawsuit against Joe Flanigan in the Supreme Court and claimed that the actor owed $99,225 in commercial fees. In addition, a similar lawsuit was filed against actor Wesley Snipes. A year later, the lawsuit was dropped.

Joe Flanigan was married to actress and artist Katherine Kousi. Their marriage lasted from 1996 to 2014. The couple had three sons. In 2014, the actress filed for divorce and commented on her decision: “irreconcilable differences”.
